Better Proposals AI Policy

AI is cool. It’s fun. Efficient even. And it’s clearly not going away.

But to me, in mine and Sabrina’s company, it has no place talking to customers, clients and partners. These are the people who keep a roof over your head and food on the table. You talk to them like a person, no exceptions.

So that’s what we will do. Always. Anything else is horrific in my opinion.

If you message us, you will get a response from one of the team. 24 hours a day, 5 days a week (slightly reduced hours on weekends). You’ll get a response in seconds or a few minutes, you’re not going to get a canned reply and you don’t need to be on our top plans to experience this.

Same service.

Every plan.

Every time.

Everyone in sales and customer support is trained on everything from billing to product, to design advice and best practices. Is this expensive? Yes but it’s better so I don’t care.

This is the promise. Buy from us, you’re buying from people.

And if any one of our staff uses AI to talk to you - gross misconduct. Fired.

Zero tolerance policy.

Thoughts on “machine learning” and “AI training”

Absolutely not. Not only does our product team have far better things to be doing than data harvesting, we will never scan or read your documents and proposals to assist any AI-anything.

The exception to this, is periodically, we create an aggregated annual report which runs queries on things like “Does the time to send a proposal increase if the proposal is sent within 24h” for example. It’s not “read”, it’s not scanned, it’s simply mathematical and cross referenced over tens of millions of proposals, and if you want to opt out, it’s in Settings.

See previous editions of the Annual Proposal Reports to see what I’m talking about.

AI Features in Better Proposals

Full transparency, we have built 2 versions of an “AI assistant” in Better Proposals for writing and honestly, it’s just terrible. It works great, feels cool to use but my gut tells me it’s just a “tank your conversion rate” button. I do not want this feature anywhere near Better Proposals.

People enjoy the benefits of AI but they hate reading it. It doesn’t matter which AI platform you use, it produces this horribly average, middle of the road, technically perfect waffle.

I am not letting you use that shit to sell to your customers.

I feel really passionately about this. It will definitely cost us customers by taking this stance but honestly, I do not care. If you use AI for writing your proposals, you will lose jobs. I am not going to make that easy for you.

AI is new and evolving all the time but a hill I am willing to bet this business on is that people want to buy from people, not chat bots.

Thank you for taking a look at us.
